And One More Thing

And One More Thing

This Tuesday, Apple held a grand event. As is tradition, the company unveiled its updated iPhones. But this year, they didn’t just announce upgrades — they introduced a brand-new model called the iPhone 17 Air.

Back in the day, Steve Jobs closed out the MacBook Air presentation with a simple manila envelope brought on stage. He started with the words: “There is something in the air.”
So, the question is — is there something in the air this time?

What happened?

On September 9, 2025, Apple presented its latest iPhones. One of the highlights is the iPhone 17 Air. It’s the “thinnest iPhone ever” — a device that feels like the future: powerful, yet so slim and lightweight that it practically disappears in your hand.

And here’s what it looks like 👀

Who is it for? What’s it for?

This phone is designed to fill the gap between the Pro models and the standard iPhones. Interesting positioning — and price-wise, it sits right in the middle too.

The iPhone 17 Air comes with a 6.5” display, which is larger than both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro (6.3”), but smaller than the old iPhone 16 Plus (6.7”). Note that there’s no 17 Plus this year. To break it down by screen size, from largest to smallest:

  • 6.9” – iPhone 17 Pro Max

  • 6.7” – iPhone 16 Plus

  • 6.5” – iPhone 17 Air

  • 6.3” – iPhone 17 / iPhone 17 Pro

So, the Air definitely has a bigger screen than the regular and Pro versions, but smaller than the Pro Max or the discontinued Plus.

In short: it’s an ultra-thin iPhone Air with a larger display, priced below the Pro, packing the same performance as the Pro, but with a slightly weaker camera compared to the iPhone 17.

Translated into plain English: this is for someone who loves well-designed, premium-quality products that make a statement — powerful, stylish, and unique — but who doesn’t really care about having the best camera. Do you know anyone like that?

The Perspective

This really is something new. We haven’t seen an iPhone with this kind of design before. It could mark the beginning of a new product line, just like the MacBook Air once did.

Apple will certainly find buyers for it. And those buyers will become part of the experiment — helping Apple understand what people truly want. With that feedback, new directions for the platform could emerge.

What could this mean?

  • Maybe an external designer battery dock, stylish enough to be carried in a handbag.

  • Maybe a shift toward making 6.5” the new standard iPhone screen size.

  • Maybe even some kind of hybrid with the iPad — imagine snapping your iPhone onto an iPad magnetically, charging it, and syncing the camera at the same time.

  • Or perhaps this is just a test run for new ultra-thin battery technologies.

The possibilities are wide open.

In conclusion

I’m glad Apple is still experimenting, creating new products, and pushing boundaries. It shows they’re still moving forward and holding the flag as the most innovative company in consumer electronics.

But honestly — I really want to hold the iPhone 17 Air myself, see how it feels, how it works in hand. And most importantly: when I slip it into the back pocket of my jeans and sit down to enjoy a burger… will it bend, or will it remain the strongest, thinnest iPhone ever made? 🍔📱
